In Want of a Wife!
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” - Pride and Prejudice
It is on this premise that TongueTied Theatre bases their show's theme - the pursuit of marriage in Austen's society. Constrained by the stringent societal code of their time, three sisters subtly, and sometimes not so subtly, maneuver themselves in battle to get that husband.
In want of a wife is a delightfully wicked and witty look at the world of Jane Austen. Flitting between corseted restraint and the frilliness of a 19th Century petticoat, In Want of a Wife flows with passion, love and unstoppable ambition. Austen's women have to do anything they can to fight for their love, but when the competition is as close as your kin the path is fraught with difficulties.
Losing your heart, keeping your head and preserving your reputation has never been so complicated.
What people have said...
"Absolutely hilarious. It had the whole audience in stitches. The extremely talented troupe were a joy to behold and as for the wet shirt...well...an absolute treat that was over far too quickly."
